How to remove Obesity?

Technology has made our life more comfortable and in modern society, more and more people are become obese. This can be due to many factors like current lifestyle, less need for physical activity, consuming junk and fast foods etc.

Obesity or excess body fat can be termed as an epidemic that is affecting all age groups including children. It is caused due to over consume of energy rich foods and very little exercise to burn off the unwanted calories. In Ayurveda, obesity has been described as “Sthoulya” meaning excessive accumulation of fat in the body. Globally, around 44% of people, who are suffering from diabetes, 23% from ischaemic heart disease and 7 – 41% suffering from certain cancers are attributable to overweight and obesity.

What causes Obesity?

An individual with a BMI (Body mass index) of 30 or more is usually considered as obese. Obesity can result in serious health complications like reduced life expectancy and an increased risk of early mortality. So please practice a healthy lifestyle, diet etc. There are certain important factors that make a person obese. They are

  1. Avyayama - lack of proper exercises.
  2. Divaaswapna – sleeping during day time.
  3. Ahara - The diet that can increase the Kapha Dosha( foods especially that are oily, fried, and in large quantity)
  4. Vihara - Life styles, that can increase the Kapha Dosha (lack of proper physical work or exercises)
  5. Atisampurana – Excessive intake of foods, which are difficult to digest easily, such as consuming sweet, cold and unctuous food contents in excessive quantity.
  6. Avyavaya – Not indulging in copulation
  7. Harshanitya- Being happy always

Moreover, consumption of foods that is hard to digest that too in large quantity, leads to production of Ama (toxins). This Ama getting mixed with Kapha residing in the Medho dhatu (Fat tissue) makes them weak and causes obesity.

The Right time to seek Medical help

If you feel that the below given symptoms are troubling your day to day activities, you must consult the physician for weight management.

  • Excessive hunger
  • Excess thirst
  • Excess sweat
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Too much of Sleep
  • Inability to withstand exertion
  • Hoarseness of voice

What are the risks?

If the above mentioned symptoms are neglected, it may lead to Diabetes, Cardio vascular diseases, Dyspnea(breathing difficulty),Rectal fistula, decrease in life span, enlargement of abdomen, Fatty Liver, Polycystic ovarian disease, Oesophageal reflex syndrome, etc.

Simple Steps to manage Obesity

Indulge more in Physical activities.

Do exercise everyday up to your maximum limit.

Reduce the quantity of food. Drinking water at the beginning and in between meals helps to minimize the quantity.

Avoid high calorie and oily foods and consume lot of watery vegetables and fruits.

Avoid day sleep, especially immediately after taking food.

Go for walk after meals, even for 10 minutes will do its best.
